Forest Resources Assessment (FRA) by FAO

Methodology
The FRA aims to monitor changes in forest cover, forest types, species composition, and other relevant forest attributes. It tracks the extent of deforestation (the loss of forest cover) and afforestation (the establishment of new forests) in different regions of the world. It evaluates the degradation of forests, which includes the reduction in quality, density, and health of forests due to various factors such as logging, unsustainable land use, and climate change. The assessment provides information on the production and consumption of wood and non-wood forest products. It looks at the biodiversity and ecosystem services provided by forests, such as habitat for wildlife, carbon sequestration, watershed protection, and recreation opportunities. It also examines the legal and institutional frameworks related to forest management, governance, and policies at the national and international levels.
Data description
The Forest Resources Assessment (FRA) is a comprehensive and periodic global assessment of the world's forests conducted by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The FRA is designed to provide reliable and up-to-date information on the status and trends of forests, as well as their contribution to socio-economic development, environmental conservation, and sustainability
