Base Natura 2000

Methodology
Natura 2000 is a network of protected areas established by the European Union to conserve biodiversity and protect valuable ecosystems. The network includes Special Areas of Conservation (SAC) and Special Protection Areas (SPA). These areas are designated based on their importance for the conservation of rare, threatened, or vulnerable species and habitats. The selected sites formally designated as SAC (for habitats and species), and/or SPA (for bird conservation) are registered on the national database. In France, the Natura 2000 database is populated by various stakeholders who work closely together to collect and update the information. The stakeholders are government institutions, local authorities, scientists, nature conservation associations, site managers, and even the public.
